A meeting between the two teams slated for the Cintas Center in early January was postponed due to a COVID outbreak among the Wildcats that kept Villanova idle until Jan. 19. Villanova took the last meeting between these two squads at Finneran Pavilion, 68-62 on Dec. 30, 2019. » Graduate Student Jermaine Samuels enters this game on the cusp of a milestone. The native of Franklin, Mass, has scored 996 points over 126 career games at Villanova. » Junior guard Bryan Antoine (Tinton Falls, N.J.) returned to practice for the first time on Dec. 11 and was in uniform and available for the game at Baylor on Dec. 12 (he did not see action). He did see six minutes of play Friday against Creighton. Antoine, who gave Villanova a lift in March, was sidelined by a patelle tendon injury in late September and has yet to appear in a game in 2021-22. » Villanova head coach Jay Wright has directed the Wildcats to 497 victories since assuming command in 2001. Of those wins, 240 have come since the start of the 2013-14 season.
