The all-time series between the two teams is a limited one and the Seawolves have an edge of 3-2 in five previous meetings. The Wildcats won the most recent matchup when they tallied a 16-13 road win over the Seawolves in the Spring season opener earlier this year. The teams have split two previous meet- ings at Villanova Stadium. HALL OF FAME RECOGNITION During Saturday’s game Villanova will honor legendary head coach Andy Talley who is being inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame next month. Talley guided the Wildcats from 1985-2016 and rebuilt the Villanova program from scratch when Villanova University reinstated football as an FCS program beginning with the 1985 season. Talley led the Wildcats to their first national title in 2009 and a total of 12 FCS playoff appearances during his tenure. He won more than 250 games during his head coaching career, which spanned 37 seasons overall and 32 years at Villanova. Talley compiled a career record of 258-155-2 (.624) as a head coach, including 230-137-1 (.626) with the Wildcats. He is the winningest head coach in Villanova football history, and during his final season in 2016 had the most wins of any active FBS or FCS head coach. Talley will be inducted to the College Football Hall of Fame on December 7 in Las Vegas. SHUTOUT TIMES TWO Villanova has recorded shutout victories in two of the past three weeks, first in a 44-0 win over Rhode Island on October 23 and most recently with a 35-0 triumph at Elon on November 6. It marks the first time in the Wildcats era as an FCS program (since 1985) that Villanova has shut out two conference opponents in the same season. The only other year since 1985 that the Wildcats had two shutouts was in 2017 when the team had shutout wins over non-conference opponent Lafayette (59-0) and CAA Football foe Maine (31-0). Villanova ranks eighth in the FCS this season with a scoring defense of 15.4 points allowed per game. DOMINANT DEFENSE The best way to sum up the Wildcats defensive effort at Elon last weekend was the job Villanova did containing Phoenix quarterback Davis Cheek, who entered the game leading CAA Football with 2,245 passing yards and an average of 25.1 completions per game. Cheek was just 13-of-28 through the air for 146 yards with an inter- ception, and he was sacked two times for a total loss of 15 yards. No individual receiver had more than 43 yards on the day and Elon managed just 17 net rushing yards. Villanova now ranks third nationally this season in passing efficiency defense with a mark of 98.75 through nine games. Linebacker Forrest Rhyne leads Villanova in tackles with 88 total stops. VS.
