This is a series that began on Feb. 15, 1936 in Providence, with the Friars posting a 46-37 victory. Villanova defeated Providence earlier this season, 89-84, at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center. Collin Gillespie’s 33 points in that win on Feb. 15 were a career high. » Villanova has had six days off since its last game at UConn. In that game, a drive to the basket by UConn’s RJ Cole with 5.9 seconds left lifted No. 21 Connecticut to a 71-69 victory over No. 8 Villanova before a sellout crowd at the XL Center. UConn scored the last six points after the Wildcats built a 69-65 lead with 31.4 seconds left. Collin Gillespie led Villanova with 17 points while Brandon Slater added 15 points. Adama Sanogo paced the Huskies with 20 points. » Collin Gillespie has now appeared in 145 games as a Wildcat while Jermaine Samuels has seen action in 142 games since arriving in 2017. The record for games played at Villanova is held by Phil Booth, who saw action in 148 from 2014-19. This marks the 56th consecutive week in which the Wildcats have been ranked in the AP poll, trailing only Gonzaga for the longest current streak (111 straight weeks) per College Poll Archive. » This is the ninth straight season in which Villanova has put together a winning streak of at least six games. The run began with a 71-58 win over Xavier on Dec. 21 and was halted on Jan. 19 by Marquette (57-54). » Villanova travels to Indianapolis on Saturday for its final game of the 2021-22 regular season.
