He replaced Jon Sumrall, who was named the head coach at Troy. Mike Stoops most recently was at Florida Atlantic where he spent the 2021 season as the defensive coordinator and safeties coach. Prior to that, he spent two seasons (2019 and 2020) at Alabama as an analyst on Nick Sa- ban’s staff , highlighted by the 2020 national championship. He also was the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator at Oklahoma from 2012-18 and was the head coach at Arizona from 2004-11. He was elevated to the DC position by head coach Mark Stoops in February of 2019. Prior to UK, White coached six years at the outside linebackers coach with the Indi- anapolis Colts. A graduate of Wake Forest, White started at linebacker and finished his playing career with 227 tackles, 19.0 tackles for loss, 4.0 sacks and eight passes defensed, while start- ing 34-of-35 games played. Before coming to the Bluegrass, Wood- ward spent two seasons as a quality control coach at Pittsburgh. From 2015-18, he served as the tight ends coach at his alma mater, Massachusetts, and also served as an offensive analyst and worked with the quarterbacks and receivers. Prior to UMass, he had coaching stints at Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham (2013-15) and Westfield State (2010-13). Yenser, originally from Fort Mitchell, Ken- tucky, began his coaching career as a gradu- ate assistant at his alma mater Troy University in 2007, working with special teams and the offensive linemen under former Wildcat and beloved UK assistant coach John Schlarman. As a player at Troy, Yenser earned a start- ing spot at center from 2003-06. That gift allowed the playing surface to be named Rich and Karen Brooks Field. It’s the second such honor for the former UK head coach, who also saw the University of Oregon name its playing surface, inside Autzen Stadium, Rich Brooks Field.
