Center Diagram Interesting Figures on the KFC Yum! Center n Structural steel placed in the arena weighs 5,975,000 pounds - the same weight as 746 average-size Asian elephants. n There are 130 miles of electrical conduit and 322 miles of electrical wiring installed in the arena - enough to stretch from Louisville to Chicago. n The overall square footage of the arena (721,762) equals approximately 13 football fields. n The length of the arena’s catwalk totals a half mile. LED and Broadcast Updates n Boasting 12,000 square feet of LED, the new multimedia displays will showcase the action on the court, in between basketball plays and on-stage during concerts in grander fashion and at a significantly higher quality. n The renovation includes 42 new locations of LED vomitory displays and 360-degree ribbon boards to create a fully immersive in-bowl experience. n The highlight of the project is a massive new six- display center-hung video system in the arena. The screen is three times larger than the arena’s original scoreboard and the new technology provides more than double the pixels of the previous display system resulting in clearer, higher resolution technology. gocards.com n University of Louisville 5 BASKETBALL Media Information Cameron Teague Robinson, Dominique Yates The Courier-Journal 525 W. Both home and away games can be heard on WKRD 790AM or through the official athletics website, GoCards.com. Nick Curran, the play-by-play voice of the Cardinals, is entering his sixth year leading the call. Curran and head coach Jeff Walz will preview each upcoming game 20 minutes prior to tip, and rejoin at the conclusion to review and talk about matchups in store for Louisville. During the Cardinals’ offseason, Curran serves as the radio play-by-play broadcaster for the Louisville Bats, the Triple-A minor league baseball affiliate for the Cincinnati Reds. Adrienne Johnson, executive director for player relations, joins Curran as the Cardinals’ analyst. Johnson, a former WNBA player, is in her 15th season on the broadcast. After starring for four seasons at Ohio State, where she scored more than 1,000 career points, Johnson played for eight seasons in the WNBA. She was taken eighth overall in the 1999 expansion draft by the Orlando Miracle after beginning her career in 1997 with the Cleveland Rockers. She finished her tenure in the professional ranks with 1,018 points, 292 rebounds, and 73 steals. During the season, Coach Walz is featured in a one hour call-in show on ESPN 93.9 The Ville in Louisville. Cardinals on the Radio Nick CurranAdrienne Johnson6 University of Louisville n gocards.com BASKETBALL Media Information T his publication, featuring the 2021-22 University of Louisville women’s basketball team, has been prepared to aid you in covering the Cardinals this season. Additional information is available through Louisville women’s basketball sports information director Nick Evans (502-852-3085, nick.evans@ louisville.edu). n Media Credentials: Requests for credentials may be directed via email to Nick Evans (nick.evans@ louisville.edu). If you apply for credentials, please indicate whether you have been vaccinated or not for COVID-19. To the extent possible with space limita- tions, priority will be given to media outlets which have regularly participated in UofL news conferences, the reach of the news entity, and the history of coverage. Credentials which are not obtained in advance may be picked up at media will call, located inside the Suite Entrance on the Second Street side of the KFC Yum! Center. Credentials will not be mailed. Media that have previously received fall sports credentials and receive approval for basketball will need to exchange their credentials. Credentials allow access to the media room and media seating areas -- or other designated areas for photographers and videographers – and do not provide access to the suites, clubs or other arena areas. If you have been approved for a credential and cannot attend, please alert Nick Evans (nick.evans@ louisville.edu, cell: 502-807-9345) so the space may be reassigned. Media interested in covering the Cardinals on the road also need to make that credential request through UofL, not through the opposing school staff. Nick Evans (nick.evans@louisville.edu) will accept those road credential requests, then work with individuals and the opposing school to determine availability for a specific site, as space will be very limited. n Health and Safety Protocols: Masks are recommended to be worn within all areas of the KFC Yum! Center, regardless of vaccination status. Media attending events at the KFC Yum! Center are not required to be vaccinated, but it is strongly encour- aged. However, only those who are vaccinated for COVID-19 are permitted in the postgame interview area or courtside, if seating is located in that area and are authorized access there. Media representatives must wear a mask at courtside and in the media interview room. Media members who are not vaccinated will be permitted in the media room and upper seating area and must wear a mask in the media room. Those not attending in-person will be able to view the press conferences live via video conference. Individuals experiencing COVID-19 symptoms may not attend UofL events. Those who have been vaccinated for COVID-19 should send a copy of their vaccination card via email to nick.evans@louisville.edu. If you have previously sent or presented your card during a UofL fall sports event, you do not need to send or show it again. n Seating: Individuals must sit in their assigned seat at the location of their place card either in the corner media seating area in Sections 119 or 120, or courtside if approved for seating there. Masks must be worn if seated courtside. Place cards may not be moved. n Photographers/Videographers: All indi- viduals approved for the limited number of courtside credentials issued this season must be vaccinated for COVID-19. Masks are required at all times. There will be limited upper photo positions available to shoot if requested and approved in advance. Unlike last season, there will not be pool photography available for media usage. Space will be limited for courtside photographers this season, with only one row permit- ted in designated baseline areas and positions will be reserved. The use of ACC game highlights are subject to the restrictions outlined in the ACC News Access Guidelines. n Parking: A limited number of parking passes are available for some approved media who receive credentials and must be requested well in advance of the game. Parking areas may have changed, so please follow the appropriate directions noted with the pass. n Notes/Stats: Game notes and statistics will be available online at www.GoCards.com/wbbmedia; there will be no printed copies provided at games. Only halftime and final statistics will be printed and distributed. Live statistics will be available during the event online on GoCards.com, the CardsMobile app and Louisville.statbroadcast.com. There is no password required to access the live stats. A pdf of the final statistics will be posted postgame on GoCards.com. n Postgame Interviews: Coach Jeff Walz and select student-athletes will be available as soon as possible following home games within the media interview room -- in-person for vaccinated individuals and via Microsoft Teams for unvaccinated or remote attendees. Media accessing the video conference in the media room must use headphones. A Microsoft Teams link will also be provided for postgame press conferences for away events. The presence of media representatives at the site will determine if there is an ability to ask questions dur- ing virtual postgame press conferences. Links for the video conference, or phone numbers to dial into the conference, will be provided to approved media who request access from Nick Evans (nick.evans@louisville. edu) prior to tipoff. n Internet Access: Wireless internet access is available throughout the KFC Yum! Center. A password is required for special media access. Wired connections also are available in the media room. n Media Room Hours: The KFC Yum! Center Media Room will open two hours prior to tip-off and will close two and a half hours after conclusion of the game. Only those who make special arrangements with Nick Evans (nick.evans@louisville.edu) in advance will be permitted in the arena any earlier. If you anticipate needing additional time postgame, you may wish to work from home or another location. n In-Week Access: News conference with Coach Walz and select student-athletes will occur early afternoons throughout the season. Those news conference could be in-person or virtual, but all will be available virtually. The notice for the events will specify if they are virtual or in-person, as well as noting the location if it is in-person. n Sports Information Office Location: The UofL Sports Information Office is located in the Swain Student Activities Center on the UofL campus at the corner of Floyd and Brandeis Streets.
