Despite having only been in the league for seven of those, Louisville owns the third- most division titles in the league. Levi Usher took home the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year award and was one of eight Cardinals named to the All-Con- ference teams. Louisville lead all programs with the eight selections and are the most for the Cards since also getting eight in 2017. Usher, Jared Poland, Michael Prosecky and Dalton Rushing were all second team selections. Christian Knapczyk, Cameron Masterman, Ben Metzinger and Jack Payton were each named to the third team. Logan Beard was also voted to the ACC All-Fresh- man team. Usher was one of three outfielders select- ed to the nine-man team recognizing the top defensive players in the country. He was the third Louisville player to take home the defensive honor, joining Will Smith in 2016 and Devin Hairston in 2017. The second Louisville player to win the ACC’s Defensive Player of the Year award, Usher proved to be one of college baseball’s best centerfielders in 2022, creating a full highlight reel of elite defensive plays culmi- nating in earning SportsCenter’s No. 1 play for his home run robbery against Clemson on April 30. Late Season Power Binge Vaulted Rushing up Home Run Charts Dalton Rushing was one of the hottest power hitters in the country over the final month of the season. In his last 19 games, the junior hit .338 (25-for-74) with 11 home runs and 20 RBIs. After tallying another long ball in the NCAA Super Regional at Texas A&M, Rush- ing finished tied for fourth on Louisville’s sin- gle-season home run list with 23 on the year. He was the first Louisville player to hit 20 home runs in a season since Drew Ellis did so in 2017 and his 23 long balls were the most since Chris Dominguez hit 25 in 2009. Dominguez and Randy Delph (1974) hold the UofL program record with 25. Usher Ascends Louisville’s Stolen Base Leaderboards Levi Usher was among the top stolen base threats in the country since his arrival on campus in 2020. Usher ranked 10th nationally with 11 steals in the shortened 2020 season, and then led the ACC and fin- ished 13th in the country with 26 in 2021. In 2022, Usher once again led the ACC with 36 stolen bases, which was good for eighth nationally. The Fairfax, Iowa, native steadily climbed Louisville’s single-season and career stolen base lists over the course of the spring. Usher’s 36 bags were the sixth-most in pro- gram history, while his 73 career steals were seventh-most. Usher was 73-for-79 on the basepaths in 129 games with the Cardinals.
