Monday vs. Albany will mark the fourth game in that stretch after Kentucky opened the season in New York vs. Duke. The seven-game home stand is not all that uncommon in the John Calipari era and not even the longest home stretch. The 2014-15 and 2019-20 teams both played eight-game home stands. They were building blocks that led to Southeastern Conference regular-sea- son championships. Albany is 0-4 this season. The Great Danes are led by Matt Cerruti, who is aver- aging 12.3 points per game and De'Vandre Perry who scores 12.0 points per contest. Justin Neely leads the way with 6.3 boards per game and is also scoring 7.3 points per game. Kentucky leads the series 1-0. The only other match-up came in 2015 when the Wildcats defeated the Great Danes, 78-65, in Lexington. Brooks, Washington Pick Up Slack in Friday Win Friday night's game against Ohio did not start in an ideal fashion for 13th-ranked Ken- tucky. Junior forward Oscar Tshiebwe, who was averaging more than 18 points and 18 rebounds per game entering Friday's con- test, picked up his second foul less than two minutes into the game and had to go to the bench. Shortly thereafter, Tshiebwe's replace- ment, Daimion Collins, also picked up two fouls. With those two players out, someone needed to step forward and pick up the slack. Enter a pair of Wildcats – one veteran and one rookie – who more than picked up the slack. It was that pair who led the Cats to a 77-59 win over Ohio on Friday night at Rupp Arena. Keion Brooks Jr. led the Wildcats (3-1) in scoring with 22 points, which was a season high and one point shy of his career high from last year. The junior from Fort Wayne, Indiana, added eight important rebounds and blocked a shot. TyTy Washington Jr. had career highs across the board in Friday's game. He eclipsed his career best with 20 points, grabbed a ca- reer-high 12 rebounds and dished out five assists, another career high. He also blocked a shot and had a steal. Washington became the third UK player under John Calipari to have at least 20 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in a game, joining Isaiah Briscoe and James Young. Oscar Tshiebwe, Keion Brooks Jr. and TyTy Washington Jr. Named to All-Tournament Team Oscar Tshiebwe, Keion Brooks Jr. and TyTy Washington Jr. were named to the Ken- tucky Classic All-Tournament Team. Tshieb- we was tabbed the MVP after averaging 12.7 points and 15.3 rebounds during the three games. With 10 rebounds Friday night, he has double-figure boards in all four games this season. Keion Brooks Jr. averaged 15 points and 5.3 rebounds during the tournament. Brooks enjoyed one of the best games of his career with 22 points and eight rebounds in 37 min- utes. His 22 points were one shy of his career high (23 on Feb. 6, 2021). TyTy Washington Jr. was sensational Fri- day with his first career double-double, scor- ing 20 points and 11 rebounds while adding five assists – season highs in all three cate- gories. Fredrick Likely to Miss 2021-22 Season Redshirt junior guard CJ Fredrick under- went surgery last week to repair a left ham- string injury and is likely to miss the remain- der of the 2021-22 season. "This news hurts so much because I love this team and we have a great group of guys," Fredrick said. "I have the best teammates, coaches, medical staff, friends and family that will get me back where I need to be. We have a very special team this season and I will do whatever I can to support the team. I am looking forward to working hard and be- ing the player I want to be for next season. I appreciate all the support of Big Blue Nation during this difficult time. My journey looks a little different, but I will be back." Fredrick, who transferred from Iowa fol- lowing the 2020-21 year, entered this sea- son as the nation's leading returner in career 3-point field-goal percentage (46.6%) with a minimum of 150 attempts. "I really hate this for CJ," John Calipari said. "He worked so hard for us this summer and made such a positive impact on our team and our culture. He has been an unbeliev- able teammate. CJ has a bright future ahead of him, and after being evaluated by our me- dial staff and specialists, it was clear the best thing for CJ was to get this surgery done now and get him back on a path to getting back on the court at 100%. He's been great through- out this whole thing and is already itching to get this process going so he can get back to doing what he loves to do." UK Picked to Win SEC Title; Four Honored in Preseason Bolstered by a collection of transfers and top-rated freshmen, as well as a core group of returners who combine to form the most experienced Kentucky team under the direc- tion of 13th-year head coach John Calipari, the Wildcats were picked to win the 2022 Southeastern Conference title by the league's media. UK was voted to win their seventh regu- lar-season title under Calipari by the league's media members. Should Kentucky achieve the feat, it would mark the program's 50th overall regular-season title. No other school comes close, with LSU in second place with 11 SEC regular-season championships. In addition to the preseason poll, four Wildcats were selected to the preseason All-SEC squads by both the media and the coaches. Junior guard Sahvir Wheeler was picked to the first team, while graduate student guard Kellan Grady and junior for- wards Keion Brooks Jr. and Oscar Tshiebwe were tabbed to the second team. Brooks and Wheeler also received at least one vote for the preseason pick for SEC Player of the Year by the media. It's the 16th time since the 1998-99 sea- son the Wildcats are the overall preseason favorite. Calipari has directed his teams to regular-season SEC crowns in 2010, 2012, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2020. Kentucky has claimed the SEC Tournament title six times under his direction in 2010, 2011, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018.167 W Main Street, Lexington | @LockboxLex | LockboxLex.com LEXINGTONLocated at GLOW BIG BLUE Just blocks from Rupp Arena, we’re the perfect destination for your pre-game dinner or post-game drinks.
