Three Wildcats partic- ipated in the singles main draw in the tour- nament, with Jack Loutit coming within one victory of qualifying to the 2025 NCAA Singles Championship. No. 28 Loutit won his opening match of the tournament in come-from-behind fash- ion against No. 55 Alex Okonkwo of Ohio State before falling in three sets in the Round of 32 against No. 5 seed Ozan Baris of Mich- igan State. However, Loutit’s run extended to the fi- nal day of the competition after winning four consolation matches. Loutit defeated a pair of ranked opponents—No. 99 Lucas Brown of Texas and No. 41 Alex Chang of Stanford— on Friday before receiving a walkover victory over Santiago Giamichelle of Georgia to ad- vance to the consolation quarterfinals. Loutit would pick up his best win of the tournament in this round, rolling over No. 15 Martin Borisiouk of NC State in straight sets to advance within one victory of a ticket to the 2025 NCAA Singles Championships in November. Within one match of a second consecutive NCAA berth, Loutit fell to No. 6 Kenta Mi- yoshi of Illinois on the final day of the tourna- ment. Eli Stephenson put together one of the best weeks of his Kentucky career, compiling a 7-2 record after advancing to the main draw from pre-qualifying. The Louisville native, who entered the tournament with two career ranked singles victories, posted a 3-2 record against ranked opposition over his seven days of play. After falling to No. 7 seed Dylan Dietrich of Virginia in the opening round of the main draw, Stephenson bounced back with a pair of victories over William Manning of NC State and No. 98 Keegan Rice of Virginia. The 2024 ITA All-American was ultimately eliminated from the tournament by No. 123 Jakub Vrba of Arkansas in a back-and-forth three set af- fair. The Wildcats will return to action from No- vember 6-9 at the ITA South Sectional Cham- pionships at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga. The event will serve as the final qualification opportunity for the 2025 NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships in Or- lando, Florida from November 18-23. Six sin- gles players and three doubles teams from the section will qualify. The Kentucky women’s tennis team was also represented by senior No. 20 Zoe Ham- mond and junior No. 57 Julia Zhu at the 2025 ITA All-American Championships, bringing the experienced duo greats wins while on the road to qualifying for the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship in November. In doubles, Zhu & Hammond started play they defeated Nebraska’s No. 60 pair of Emma Rizzetto & Conley Raidt (6-2, 7-6(3)) to send them to the round of 32, where they ultimately fell to Oklahoma’s Barakat Quadre and Chloe Noel (7-6(3), 6-1). Zhu played in the singles qualifying draw as the No. 57 ranked player by ITA this pre- season. In some of her best play after drop- ping the first set, Zhu soared to a round of 64 win against North Carolina’s No. 124 Claire Hill (4-6, 6-0, 6-1). Following the win, Zhu played the next day against NC State’s No. 88 Lavinia Tanasie, unfortunately dropping a highly contested match (6-2, 6-4). However, Zhu was lucky enough to sneak into the main draw as one of the last spots to ex- tend her trip to Cary and give her a shot at qualifying for NCAAs. Joining Zhu in the main draw was No. 20 Hammond. On the first day of the main draw in the round of 64, Zhu fell to Ohio State’s No. 11 Teah Chavez (6-4, 6-4), while Hammond soared to a victory against No. 54 Alejandra Cruz of Georgia Tech (6(5)-7, 6-3, 6-4). The next day, Hammond fell to No. 43 Tatum Evans of North Carolina (7-6(4), 6-0). In the consolation bracket, Zhu defeated UNC Charlotte’s Prisca Abbas in three sets (6-4, 0-6, 6-2) to stay alive in the competition once again. In the consolation round of 32, Zhu fell short of a comeback against No. 55 Gabia Paskauskas of Florida (6-4, 7-6(3)), in a super competitive and high-level match, ending her time at the championship. Hammond defeat- ed No. 36 of Virginia Tech, Ozlem Uslu, in a three-set comeback (2-6, 6-2, 6-1). Moving on to the qualifying consolation round of 16, Hammond lost to Ohio State’s No. 60 Nao Nishino in straight sets (6-0, 6-1) to finish the Wildcats time in Cary. The rest of the squad will join Hammond and Zhu on their quest for an NCAA qualifying spot. Senior Ellie Myers brings tons of experi- ence along with sophomore Asuncion Jadue with a season of collegiate tennis underneath her belt. Three new Wildcats have also made their debut in a Kentucky uniform: Sopho- more transfer Marina Fuduric, and freshmen Reese Sager and Elena Molla. The women’s tennis Wildcats will return to play in the next NCAA Championship qualify- ing event on Oct. 16-21 in Knoxville, Tenn. at the ITA Regional Championships. 70 n @UKFootball Olympic Sports Update n Kentucky Men's & Women's Tennis KENTUCKY FOOTBALL44John “Shipwreck” KellyHB1929-31 66Raloh KerchevalP1931-33 13Bob DavisHB1935-37 Bernie A. The NCAA & SEC rules were developed to ensure those members of the institution’s staff, student- athletes and other individuals or groups representing the institution’s ath- letics interests comply with the NCAA rules and maintain the highest standard of ethical conduct. Principles of Rules Compliance The Athletics Compliance Office (ACO) works to identify and reduce areas of risk within the athletics program that could neg- atively impact the University of Kentucky. If a problem arises, it is the responsibility of the ACO to determine how the problem oc- curred, how it could have been prevented and how to reduce the chances of it occur- ring in the future. The two main functions of the ACO are to educate and monitor. The ACO meets regularly with coaches and stu- dent-athletes to provide information and materials on the applications of the com- plexities of the NCAA bylaws, and at the same time provide as much information as possible to the University of Kentucky com- munity. The staff also monitors the functions of the athletics department that are governed by NCAA legislation. Principles of Institutional Responsibility The institution’s responsibility for the conduct of its intercollegiate athletics pro- gram includes responsibility for the actions of its staff members and for the actions of any other individual or organization engaged in activities promoting the athletics inter- ests of the institution. The NCAA defines an individual as a rep- resentative of athletics interests or a “boost- er” or “donor” if he or she: • Has participated in or is a member of an agency or organization promoting UK’s inter- collegiate athletics program; • Makes or has made a donation to any of the UK men’s or women’s athletics pro- grams; • Is assisting or has been requested by the UK Athletics Department Staff to assist in the recruitment of prospects (which he or she is NOT permitted to do); • Is assisting or has been requested to Pro- vide benefits to enrolled student-athletes or their families (which he or she is NOT permitted to do); • Has been involved otherwise in promoting the UK athletics pro- gram. Remember, a repre- sentative of athletics In- terests is responsible for making the University of Kentucky’s ACO aware of any potential viola- tions of NCAA rules he or she knows have oc- curred. According to the NCAA, once an individu- al has been identified as an athletics represen- tative, he or she retains this identity forever, even if that person no longer contributes to the athletics program. Name, Image & Likeness Pursuant to the adoption of Kentucky re- vised statutes 164.6941 through 164.6951, Kentucky student-athletes are now per- mitted to use their name, image, and like- ness for purposes of compensation. Below are a few key highlights for donors/fans to be aware of: • SA is permitted receive NIL compensa- tion provided there are services rendered by the SA (quid pro quo). • All NIL deals must be submitted seven business days prior to the activity occurring and must be approved within threes busi- ness days by the institution; • Failure to disclose NIL deals to UK may result in violations of Kentucky State Law and NCAA rules, which in turn will affect a SA’s eligibility. • Prospects may not receive compensa- tion from anyone in exchange for commit- ting to or signing a scholarship with the Uni- versity of Kentucky. • Donor’s may not have contact with pro- spective student-athletes, including to ne- gotiate an NIL deal; • SA must receive fair market value for services rendered. • It is permissible for a donor/booster to enter into a genuine NIL agreement with a current SA, so long as the agreement is not a payment, provision or promise of any other consideration or benefits. • UK marks are not permitted to be used for SA NIL activities UNLESS approved by UK in advance. • UK, including but not limited to athlet- ics staff and coaches, are not permitted to provide, arrange or negotiate NIL deals for SA’s. • UK is permitted to put you into contact with a current SA if there is interest in a NIL deal – UK encourages contacting SA’s di- rectly via their social media accounts. Failure to adhere to these regulations create NCAA violations that may result in a SA or PSA to be ineligible for intercollegiate competition. In addition, it may affect your standing as a donor with UK. To learn more, visit https://ukathletics. com/NIL Student-Athlete Employment In addition to NIL, SA’s are also able to obtain employment opportunities to earn extra funds or gain invaluable experience in a field in which they look to have a career. SA’s are permitted to work provided: • They are only paid for work performed; • They are paid at the going rate for ser- vices in the locale. • The job is registered with the ACO.
