The freshman added five rebounds, three assists and two steals. D.J. Wagner had 13 points and four as- sists, while freshman Justin Edwards had 12 points, five rebounds and two steals. Fellow freshman and Kentucky native Reed Shep- pard had 12 points, five rebounds, two as- sists, two blocks and two steals in his first official game in Rupp Arena. Tre Mitchell came up just short of a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds. Kentucky blew the game open at the end, scoring the last 17 points and ending the game on a 21-2 run. • Kentucky limited New Mexico State to 46 points and improved to 90-0 under Cali- pari when limiting opponents to 55 points or fewer • NMSU shot 32.1% from the field. UK is 234-24 (90.7%) under Calipari when keeping the opponent to 40% or less • Kentucky forced 18 turnovers, 13 of which were steals, and UK won points off turnovers, 24-6. The 13 steals were tied for the second-most ever in a game under Calipari • Kentucky led by as many as 40 points. The Wildcats are 330-14 (95.9%) in the Calipari era when leading by as many as 10 points at any time during the contest Kentucky in Season Openers Now in its 122nd season of college bas- ketball, Kentucky is 100-21 all-time in sea- son openers following the win over New Mexico State (the Wildcats did not have a schedule in 1952-53 due to NCAA suspen- sion). • UK has won 13 of 15 season openers under John Calipari • Kentucky is perfect in home season openers under Calipari • Included in Kentucky's 100-21 all-time season-opening record was a 34-game win- ning streak from the 1927-28 season to the 1961-62 season • Kentucky is 221-21 (91.3%) in Rupp Arena under Calipari Forever Young Similar to early teams under John Calipa- ri's direction, the 2023-24 Kentucky Wild- cats are one of the nation's youngest teams. With an average age of 20.0 years, the Cats rank as the seventh youngest team in the country. Only Arizona, at 19.77 years is younger from a Power Five standpoint. Kentucky Athletics unveiled the design, which features the UK logo at midcourt and a contrasting wood stain outline of the State of Kentucky. The updated court design also features perimeter borders painted Kentucky Blue with the Kentucky Wordmark on each base- line, the Rupp Arena at Central Bank Center logos on the wings and the Southeastern Conference logos in the lanes. The Cawood’s Court marker memorializ- ing legendary radio play-by-play announc- er Cawood Ledford remains at midcourt in front of the broadcast table on the opposite side from the team benches, and the UK logo with “Mr. Wildcat” honoring longtime manager Bill Keightley is still in front of the UK bench. The Kentucky Men’s and Women’s Bas- ketball teams will begin playing on the new surface following volleyball season, with expected installation ahead of the Men’s Basketball game vs. UNC-Wilmington on Dec. 2. The current court has customizations installed specific to the volleyball surface overlay, necessitating that court remain in place for the remainder of the volleyball season. The Kentucky Volleyball, Women’s Basketball and Gymnastics Teams are call- ing Rupp Arena home for this season while Memorial Coliseum undergoes renovations. The new court replaces the surface that was originally installed in 2001.
