Three Wildcats, two from the women’s side and one from the men’s, have already won individual titles this season, part of what has been a stellar start to the 2025-26 campaign for both Kentucky’s golf programs. Anastasia Hekkonen, a sophomore wom- en’s golfer, hauled in the first individual title of the season after leading the prestigious Folds of Honor Collegiate at American Dune Golf Club – the church that Jack built – in Grand Havens, Michigan, wire-to-wire in ear- ly September. She assembled a 7-under-par 209 tournament total, her career best by 11 shots. Hekkonen won the tournament by four strokes. She also helped UK finish third out of 12 teams, placing ahead of seven teams ranked or receiving votes in the Women’s Golf Coaches Association preseason rankings. Her first round – a 6-under-par 66 – tied for the fourth-best, 18-hole round in program history. She had zero bogeys and six birdies on the round. That also marked her career best by four shots. Hekkonen followed that up with a sec- ond-round 72 (E) and a final-round 71 (-1). The Wildcat recorded exclusively pars and birdies until her 27th hole at the event. In fact, she recorded just four bogeys across the 54 holes total. She also had no three-puts across the 54 holes. Her teammate, Cathryn Brown, a junior from Eddyville, Kentucky, finished tied for second place at the Folds, and then two weeks late she hauled in her own individu- al title at The Johnie Imes Invitational in late September. Brown was crowned champion on a 137 (-7) across 36 holes, and while the final round was canceled because of weather, she was 2-under through nine holes, holding a four- shot lead over her opponent sitting second. Like Hekkonen, it marked Brown’s first tournament title in her college career. The last time the UK women’s golf team had more than one individual championship in a single season was 2018-19, when Leo- nie Bettel collected three trophies and Rikke Svejgård Nielsen won one. That also was the last time UK won back-to-back individual championships. The women’s golf team will compete next at The Landfall Tradition at the Landfall Coun- try Club in Wilmington, North Carolina, from Oct. 24-26. Kentucky men’s golf also saw a fall cham- pion, as freshman Cole Stockard claimed victory at the second annual Cullan Brown Collegiate, UK’s home event. Stockard earned his maiden collegiate win in just his third college start, going 6-un- der par over 36 holes to come out on top in the weather-shortened event. It was the first win by a UK men’s golfer since Alex Goff won the Blessings Collegiate in October of 2020, and the first by a fresh- man since Chip McDaniel at the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational in 2015. Stockard’s win was powered in large part by his opening round 66 (-5), a career-best score which featured eight birdies. He closed the deal with a 1-under score of 70 in round two, capped by a birdie in the rain on his final hole to clinch the one-shot victory. “I am super pumped for Cole,” head coach Gator Todd said following the tourna- ment. “He played outstanding all week and showed why he is one of the best freshmen in the country.” For the tournament, which was held at Lexington Country Club Oct. 6-7, Stockard made 11 birdies, tied for the most in the 90-player field. After his victory, Stockard was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week for his performance. The win was just part of what has been an impressive first semester for the native of Dalton, Ga. Stockard has been in the start- ing lineup for the team’s first three events, posting a 71.13 scoring average across eight rounds, while registering five rounds at par- or-better. As a team, Kentucky finished as the run- ner-up at the Cullan Brown Collegiate in ad- dition to a sixth-place finish at the Visit Knox Collegiate and a ninth-place showing at the Bearcat Invitational. Through eight rounds, UK owns a team scoring average of 283.75 and has scored un- der par as a group four times. Stockard and the Wildcats conclude the fall season at the Williams Cup, Oct. 19-21 in Wilmington, N.C. 70 n @UKFootball Olympic Sports Update n Kentucky Men's & Women's Golf KENTUCKY FOOTBALL Kentucky Men’s, Women’s Golf Have Already Claimed Three Individual Titles Early in 2025-26 Cole Stockard Anastasia Hekkonen Cathryn Brown44John “Shipwreck” KellyHB1929-31 66Raloh KerchevalP1931-33 13Bob DavisHB1935-37 Bernie A. The NCAA & SEC rules were developed to ensure those members of the institution’s staff, student- athletes and other individuals or groups representing the institution’s ath- letics interests comply with the NCAA rules and maintain the highest standard of ethical conduct. Principles of Rules Compliance The Athletics Compliance Office (ACO) works to identify and reduce areas of risk within the athletics program that could neg- atively impact the University of Kentucky. If a problem arises, it is the responsibility of the ACO to determine how the problem oc- curred, how it could have been prevented and how to reduce the chances of it occur- ring in the future. The two main functions of the ACO are to educate and monitor. The ACO meets regularly with coaches and stu- dent-athletes to provide information and materials on the applications of the com- plexities of the NCAA bylaws, and at the same time provide as much information as possible to the University of Kentucky com- munity. The staff also monitors the functions of the athletics department that are governed by NCAA legislation. Principles of Institutional Responsibility The institution’s responsibility for the conduct of its intercollegiate athletics pro- gram includes responsibility for the actions of its staff members and for the actions of any other individual or organization engaged in activities promoting the athletics inter- ests of the institution. The NCAA defines an individual as a rep- resentative of athletics interests or a “boost- er” or “donor” if he or she: • Has participated in or is a member of an agency or organization promoting UK’s inter- collegiate athletics program; • Makes or has made a donation to any of the UK men’s or women’s athletics pro- grams; • Is assisting or has been requested by the UK Athletics Department Staff to assist in the recruitment of prospects (which he or she is NOT permitted to do); • Is assisting or has been requested to Pro- vide benefits to enrolled student-athletes or their families (which he or she is NOT permitted to do); • Has been involved otherwise in promoting the UK athletics pro- gram. Remember, a repre- sentative of athletics In- terests is responsible for making the University of Kentucky’s ACO aware of any potential viola- tions of NCAA rules he or she knows have oc- curred. According to the NCAA, once an individu- al has been identified as an athletics represen- tative, he or she retains this identity forever, even if that person no longer contributes to the athletics program. Name, Image & Likeness Pursuant to the adoption of Kentucky re- vised statutes 164.6941 through 164.6951, Kentucky student-athletes are now per- mitted to use their name, image, and like- ness for purposes of compensation. Below are a few key highlights for donors/fans to be aware of: • SA is permitted receive NIL compensa- tion provided there are services rendered by the SA (quid pro quo). • All NIL deals must be submitted seven business days prior to the activity occurring and must be approved within threes busi- ness days by the institution; • Failure to disclose NIL deals to UK may result in violations of Kentucky State Law and NCAA rules, which in turn will affect a SA’s eligibility. • Prospects may not receive compensa- tion from anyone in exchange for commit- ting to or signing a scholarship with the Uni- versity of Kentucky. • Donor’s may not have contact with pro- spective student-athletes, including to ne- gotiate an NIL deal; • SA must receive fair market value for services rendered. • It is permissible for a donor/booster to enter into a genuine NIL agreement with a current SA, so long as the agreement is not a payment, provision or promise of any other consideration or benefits. • UK marks are not permitted to be used for SA NIL activities UNLESS approved by UK in advance. • UK, including but not limited to athlet- ics staff and coaches, are not permitted to provide, arrange or negotiate NIL deals for SA’s. • UK is permitted to put you into contact with a current SA if there is interest in a NIL deal – UK encourages contacting SA’s di- rectly via their social media accounts. Failure to adhere to these regulations create NCAA violations that may result in a SA or PSA to be ineligible for intercollegiate competition. In addition, it may affect your standing as a donor with UK. To learn more, visit https://ukathletics. com/NIL Student-Athlete Employment In addition to NIL, SA’s are also able to obtain employment opportunities to earn extra funds or gain invaluable experience in a field in which they look to have a career. SA’s are permitted to work provided: • They are only paid for work performed; • They are paid at the going rate for ser- vices in the locale. • The job is registered with the ACO.
