< Previous14 @KentuckyMBB From Press Row Williams' Triple Double Not Enough at Ole Miss Amari Williams recorded the fourth tri- ple-double in Kentucky basketball history, but the 14th-ranked Cats lost at No. 25 Ole Miss 98-84 on Tuesday night in Oxford. Williams had 12 points, 11 rebounds and a career-high 10 assists in the game, joining Chris Mills (Dec. 27, 1988), De’Aaron Fox (Nov. 28, 2016) and Isaiah Briscoe (Dec. 29, 2016) in the exclusive club. Kentucky (15-7, 4-5 Southeastern Confer- ence) got a career-high 24 points from Otega Oweh and 18 points from Jaxson Robinson. Koby Brea and Andrew Carr each had 10 points for the Cats. Some additional notes from the game: • Kentucky made 10 of 21 on 3-pointers. The Wildcats are 11-3 this season when mak- ing at least 10 long balls in a game. • Kentucky won the rebounding 37-29. UK is 11-3 this season when winning the re- bounding. • Cats had 21 assists on 29 field goals, a 72.4 percent assist rate. It was the ninth game this season for Kentucky with at least 20 total assists • Wildcats shot 29-58 (.500) from the field overall. UK is 10-1 when shooting 50 percent or better this season • Ole Miss finished with 24 assists and just one turnover. The 24 assists tied for the most ever by the Rebels against Kentucky • Ole Miss’s 98 points were the Rebels most ever against Kentucky • This was Kentucky’s first game this sea- son to feature no ties and no lead changes • UK lost despite leading Ole Miss in sec- ond chance points (6-2), bench points (20- 18), points in the paint (38-30) and fastbreak points (13-8) Kentucky Honoring 1975 National Runner Up Team The University of Kentucky Athletics De- partment will celebrate the 1974-1975 men’s basketball team, which finished as the nation- al runner-up and captured the Southeastern Conference regular-season crown, this week- end with festivities surrounding Saturday’s game vs. South Carolina inside Rupp Arena at Central Bank Center. The ceremony will take place during half- time of the game on Saturday, which tips off at Noon ET and will be televised on ESPN2. Head coach Joe B. Hall’s 1974-75 Wild- cats went 26-5 overall (15-3 SEC) and finished the season ranked No. 2 nationally. The sea- son began on Nov. 30 with a 97-70 home win over Northwestern. UK earned wins over No. 9 North Carolina, No. 18 Kansas, No. 13 No- tre Dame, No. 18 Tennessee and had two wins over No. 5 Alabama during the regular season. The Wildcats opened their NCAA Tourna- ment quest with a win over No. 10 Marquette in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The Cats then took down Central Michigan in Dayton, Ohio, before nipping No. 1 Indiana by a 92- 90 score to move on to the Final Four. Ken- tucky then topped Syracuse by a 95-79 score to reach the national final. Prior to the game, legendary coach John Wooden announced his retirement following the title game. Motivated by that announce- ment, the Bruins claimed a 92-85 victory and their 10th NCAA title. Hall was named the SEC Coach of the Year, while senior Kevin Grevey earned consensus second-team All-America honors and he was the SEC Player of the Year. He was joined on the All-SEC Team by fellow senior Jimmy Dan Conner, and freshman Rick Robey. Grevey scored 34 points in the champion- ship game, while Bob Guyette (16) and Mike Flynn (10) also reached double-digit scoring. Flynn went 9 of 13 and had a team-high 22 points in the upset of top-rated and the favor- ite to win the title, Indiana, who had won 34 straight games. Know Your Opponent South Carolina is the second-straight Satur- day opponent for the Wildcats who will come off a bye week before facing UK. The Game- cocks are 10-12 overall and 0-9 in SEC action, despite being an NCAA Tournament team a season ago. South Carolina is paced by All-SEC per- former Collin Murray-Boyles who leads the team in scoring (15.5) and rebounding (8.8). The Gamecocks own nonconference wins over Virginia Tech, Boston College and Clemson, a team the Wildcats lost to in early December. All-time, UK leads the series 54-15 and is 29-3 when the game is played in Lexington. South Carolina has won the last two meetings, however. Injury Bug The Wildcats are off to a 15-7 start and have a 6-1 record against Associated Press Top 15 ranked opponents. The six wins ties the 2002-03 team for the most regular-season vic- tories against top 15 foes in program history. Kentucky is doing this despite only having a full roster for just seven games this season. UK's absenses this season due to injury: Lamont Butler - 5 games (Gonzaga, Colgate, at Tennessee, Arkansas, at Ole Miss) Andrew Carr - 1 game (at Vanderbilt) Brandon Garrison - 1 game (Georgia State) Kerr Kriisa - Has not been available since Dec. 7 at Gonzaga Three Wildcats on Midseason Watch Lists Three Wildcats, Lamont Butler, Otega Oweh and Jaxson Robinson are on various midseason watch lists following stellar starts to the season. Butler and Oweh are both on the USBWA Oscar Robertson Trophy Midseason Watch List. Butler is also on the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Top 15 list, while he was also picked as a midseason second-team All-Amer- ican by The Sporting News. Robinson was selected to the top 10 mid- season list of the Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year list. Butler has proven to be one of UK's most important players this season. He was the US- BWA National Player of the Week after pour- ing in 33 points in the win over Louisville. Defensively, he is leading the team with 1.8 steals per game. UK is 12-5 with him on the court and is yielding 75.8 points per game, a 41.7% field-goal clip and a 29.3% 3-point rate to its opponents. In the five games he has missed, UK is 3-2 and giving up 83.2 points per game, 45.9% from the field and 33.8% from 3-point range. Oweh is UK's leading scorer at 16.0 points per game. He has topped double figures in all 22 games and is the only player in the SEC to achieve the feat. Oweh is best after the break, logging a team-best 10.0 points per game after halftime. Robinson has been UK's steady leader during SEC action. He is posting a team-high 16.1 points per game and shooting 47.9% from distance against league foes. Robinson has drained three or more 3s in seven straight outings, beginning with seven 3s scored in a 27-point performance in the win at Mississippi State.Thank You to Our CORNERSTONE PARTNERSNEAround the SEC Around the Country 2024-25 SEC Standings and Statistics Team SEC Overall Home Road Auburn 9-0 21-1 10-0 5-1 Alabama 8-1 19-3 10-1 6-1 Florida 6-3 19-3 11-1 3-2 Missouri 6-3 17-5 15-0 2-4 Texas A&M 6-3 17-5 10-1 3-3 Tennessee 6-4 19-4 13-1 3-3 Ole Miss 6-4 17-6 11-2 3-3 Mississippi State 4-5 16-6 8-3 4-2 Vanderbilt 4-5 16-6 11-1 2-4 Kentucky 4-5 15-7 9-2 2-4 Georgia 4-6 16-7 13-1 1-5 Texas 4-6 15-8 10-4 3-3 Oklahoma 3-6 16-6 9-2 1-4 Arkansas 3-6 14-8 9-3 3-3 LSU 1-8 12-10 10-3 1-5 South Carolina 0-9 10-12 8-6 1-5 Scoring Player-Team ...................................................................PPG Johnson, Tre - Texas .....................................................19.24 Broome, Johni - AUB ...................................................18.15 Sears, Mark - UA ........................................................18.09 Moore, Jalon - OK ......................................................17.91 Edwards, Jason - VU ....................................................17.59 Hubbard, Josh - MISS ST ..............................................17.59 Rebounding Player-Team ...................................................................RPG Broome, Johni - AUB ...................................................10.90 Williams, Amari - UK ....................................................9.09 Murray-Boyles, Collin - SC ............................................8.82 Nelson, Grant - UA ......................................................8.41 Kaluma, Arthur - Texas ...................................................8.18 Milicic Jr., Igor - UT ......................................................8.18 Assists Player-Team ...................................................................APG Zeigler, Zakai - UT ........................................................7.45 Fland, Boogie - ARK ......................................................5.72 Sears, Mark - UA ...........................................................5.09 Butler, Lamont - UK ......................................................4.76 Hoggard, A.J. - VU .........................................................4.57 Steals Player-Team ...................................................................SPG Matthews, Cameron - MISS ST .......................................2.59 Pedulla, Sean - UM........................................................2.17 Tanner, Tyler - VU ..........................................................2.09 Murrell, Matthew - UM .................................................2.05 Zeigler, Zakai - UT .......................................................2.00 Robinson II, Anthony - MO ............................................2.00 Blocks Player-Team ...................................................................BPG Broome, Johni - AUB .....................................................2.75 Cyril, Somto - UGA .......................................................1.83 Ivisic, Zvonimir - ARK ....................................................1.81 Okpara, Felix - UT .........................................................1.78 Collins, Daimion - LSU ..................................................1.70 2024-25 Associated Press Rankings As of February 3, 2025 (week 14) Team Record Points 1 Auburn (62) 20-1 1550 2 Duke 19-2 1488 3 Alabama 19-3 1422 4 Tennessee 18-4 1295 5 Houston 17-4 1245 6 Florida 18-3 1183 7 Purdue 17-5 1102 8 Iowa State 17-4 1078 9 Michigan State 18-3 1044 10 Texas A&M 17-5 976 11 Marquette 18-4 875 12 St. John's 19-3 808 13 Texas Tech 17-4 793 14 Kentucky 15-6 747 15 Missouri 17-4 717 16 Kansas 15-6 599 17 Memphis 18-4 530 18 Maryland 17-5 390 19 UConn 16-6 322 20 Arizona 15-6 308 21 Wisconsin 17-5 287 22 Mississippi State 16-6 217 23 Illinois 15-7 208 24 Michigan 16-5 191 25 Ole Miss 16-6 184 18 @KentuckyMBBWe’re your Shield.
