Denzel Aberdeen has been off to a ter- rific start for the Wildcats in 2025-26. He's currently leading the team at 14.2 points per game, while adding 14 assists and con- necting on 49.0% of his field goals. • Aberdeen scored a career-high 26 points in the loss at Louisville. It marked just his fourth-ever 20-point output. He also snagged a career-best seven rebounds • Through five games played, Aberdeen has career best marks in points per game (14.2), rebounds per game (4.0), field-goal percentage (.490), free-throw percentage (.882), assists per game (2.8) and steals per game (1.4) • He has scored in double figures in all five games, and drained at least one 3-pointer in each contest as well. Aber- deen had never scored in double figures in five consecutive games prior to the start to this season Instate Freshmen Kentucky's freshman class includes two of the highest rated instate prospects in the modern era in Jasper Johnson and Malachi Moreno, both consensus top-30 prospects in the class of 2025. Johnson boasts deep ties to UK as his father and uncle both played football at the University of Kentucky, while his grandfather worked in athletics administration for eight years. The youngest Johnson began his high school career at Woodford Country High School in Versailles, Ky., where he was a du- al-sport athlete in football and basketball. He transitioned to focus on basketball ahead of his junior year, transferring to Link Academy in Missouri for one season, and then to Over- time Elite for his senior year of high school. Moreno played his high school ball at Great Crossing in Georgetown, Ky., just a half hour from campus. He won Mr. Ken- tucky Basketball in 2025 and helped lead his team to the high school state champi- onship while averaging 21.5 points, 14.9 rebounds, 3.6 blocks and 3.5 assists. Moreno was named a Mc- Donald’s All-American. Both Moreno and Johnson were a part of the USA Basketball U19 National Team Training Camp this summer, with Johnson going on to play for Team USA and win a gold medal at the FIBA U19 Men’s World Cup in Switzerland.
