The Wildcats return nine players and welcome three newcomers for the 2023-24 season, the first being led by Todd, who spent the last six seasons at Vanderbilt University, most recently serving as head coach. Todd has a strong pedigree, helping the Commodores accumulate 22 regular-season and postseason tournament titles, totaling 18 All-Americans, 24 All-Region selections, four Southeastern Conference Players of the Year and 18 First- and Second-Team All-SEC picks. Along with that, the University of Al- abama alum who already is familiar with the Conference landscape, brought in a couple former Wildcats to serve as assistant coaches on his staff. Chip McDaniel, who was a 2016 PING Third-Team All-American and Second-Team All-SEC selection for the Cats before playing four seasons profession- ally returns to Lexington along with Jacob Cook, a six-time Academic All-SEC pick who played in 32 career tournaments for Kentucky. “This has always been a dream scenar- io to come up here and lead this program,” Todd said. “It has been a hectic start but Chip and Jacob have helped make my tran- sition so much smoother. Both of them have helped me and my family grow accustomed to Lexington and the University and I’m looking forward to helping move this pro- gram forward alongside them.” Moving that program forward becomes a much easier task when Todd can look at a lineup that returns a pair of seasoned veter- ans in graduate Alex Goff and senior Camp- bell Kremer, who have combined to tee it up in 58 career tournaments heading into the 2023-24 campaign. Goff, from Kings Mountain, North Caro- lina, was a Second-Team All-SEC selection a year ago, leading Kentucky with a 70.73 scoring average to go along with a team-high five top-10 finishes and nine in the top 20. The two-time Golf Coaches Association of America All-America Scholar holds a 71.70 career scoring average, which ranks the best of any Wildcat dating back to the 1993-94 season, ahead of the next-best scoring aver- age by a Wildcat, a 72.02 number held by his current assistant coach McDaniel. Kremer, who joined Goff as an Academ- ic All-SEC selection, posted a 73.67 scoring average last year, sitting third in the team with eight par-or-better rounds and 24.3 team counted rounds. A native of Louisville, Kentucky, Kremer has tallied four-career top-20 finishes and 23 rounds of par-or-better in his three-plus- year career. Along with those veterans come a plethora of newcomers and younger contributors to the program, including Vanderbilt transfer Jansen Preston, sopho- more Kevin Watts, redshirt fresh- man Solomon Petrie and fresh- man Michael Hake. Preston, a junior and a Lexington native, along with Petrie and Hake, each joined Goff and Kremer in the lineup in their opening tourna- ment of the season, while Watts teed it up in all 10 events as a freshman a year ago. Graduate Cooper Parks, fifth year Jackson LaLonde, senior Tanner Parks, sophomore An- drew Clark, redshirt freshman Oakley Gee and freshman Wesley Beard also will help bolster the Kentucky squad in Todd’s first season in Lexington. The Cats opened their season Sept. 4-6 with a tie for sixth in a strong 18-team field at the Folds of Honor Collegiate at American Dunes Golf Club in Grand Haven, Michi- gan. Kentucky shot a final-round 2-over-par 286 as a team, the second-best team score on the day, while Goff tied for second at even-par and Kremer tied for 16th at 4-over. Kentucky has three more fall tourna- ments, the SEC Match Play Championship Sept. 25-27 in Mountain Brook, Alabama, The Blessings Collegiate Invitational Oct. 2-4 in Fayetteville, Arkansas, and the Steel- wood Collegiate Invitational Oct. 28-29 in Loxley, Alabama. The Cats open their five-tournament spring slate Feb. 5-6 at the Battle at Briar’s Creek in Johns Island, South Carolina, before traveling to Gainesville, Florida, Feb. 17-18 for the Gators Invitation- al. The Schenkel Invitational follows March 15-17 in Statesboro, Georgia, before the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate March 24-26 in Awendaw, South Carolina, and the Mason Rudolph Championship April 5-7 in Franklin, Tennessee. Postseason play begins April 24-28 at the SEC Championship at the Seaside Course at Sea Island in St. Simons Island, Georgia. NCAA Regionals will be held May 13-15 before NCAA Championships May 24-29 at the Omni La Costa Champions Course in Carlsbad, California.
