< PreviousWEEKNIGHTS 7:30 p.m. SATURDAY 9:00 a.m.KENTUCKY BASKETBALL 14 @KentuckyMBB From Press Row Last Time Out: Vanderbilt Recap After topping the century mark in each of its last two home games, much was expect- ed from the No. 15 Kentucky offense again in the home finale against Vanderbilt. And again, the Cats delivered a big-time offensive performance. Kentucky got 23 points from Rob Dill- ingham and 20 from Antonio Reeves to beat Vanderbilt 93-77. For Reeves, it was his sixth consecutive 20-point game. D.J. Wagner scored 11 points and Justin Edwards had 10. Reed Sheppard had just eight points but was able to dish out 11 as- sists, tying his season high. Kentucky struggled from the field early, making just two of its first eight shots, as Van- derbilt took a 6-4 lead. An Adou Thiero layup tied the game at 6-6 before a Reeves runner gave UK an 8-6 advantage. Vandy would take an 11-10 lead on a Tyr- in Lawrence three and the ‘Dores would lead 13-11 before a Wagner three gave the Cats a 14-13 lead. However, Vandy answered with a 9-2 run to take a 22-16 advantage with 9:16 left in the half. Kentucky would get a pair of Edwards free throws and a Thiero dunk to cut the deficit to two, 22-20, before Vanderbilt scored four in a row to stretch its lead to 26-20. Another Wagner three and a Reeves jumper cut the deficit to 26-25, but the ‘Dores again scored four in a row to lead 30-25. That’s when Dillingham went on a point-producing barrage. During a 17-8 run that gave UK a 42-38 lead, Dillingham scored 12 points and assisted on a Sheppard three. After a late Vandy basket, Reeves hit a three at the halftime buzzer and the Cats led 45-40 at the break. Kentucky missed its first three shots of the second half before Edwards hit a three from the right side, giving UK a 48-43 advantage. In fact, Edwards would score UK’s first eight points of the half as the Cats built a 53-45 lead. Vanderbilt would not go away. In fact, the ‘Dores went on a 7-2 run to get within three, 55-52, before Dillingham made consecutive baskets to extend the UK lead to 59-52 with 13:01 to play. As he did in the first half, Dillingham caught fire again in the second. He scored seven straight UK points as the Cats built a 68-55 lead with 9:25 to play. The game was never in doubt from that point as the Cats cruised to a 93-77 victory on Senior Night. Antonio Reeves Named a Finalist for Jerry West Award Kentucky guard Antonio Reeves was named a finalist for the Jerry West Award on Tuesday. Reeves paces the Wildcats with 20.0 points per game and leads the South- eastern Conference, while ranking fourth na- tionally with a 44.2% 3-point clip. Reeves is one of five finalists for the award honoring the nation’s best shooting guard. Caleb Love (Arizona), Kevin Mc- Cullar Jr. (Kansas), Tyson Walker (Michigan State) and RJ Davis (North Carolina) are the other finalists. Fans can support Reeves by participating in fan voting, starting Friday on hoophalla- wards.com. The fan vote will count as one committee vote during the finalist selection process. The annual Jerry West Award, named after the Class of 1980 Hall of Famer and 1959 NCAA Final Four Most Valuable Play- er, celebrates its 10th year by highlighting the top shooting guard in the country. Malik Monk (2017) is the only Kentucky player to earn the honor. He is UK’s leading scorer at 20.0 points per game (in the John Calipari era, only Ja- mal Murray at 20.0 points per game aver- aged as much as Reeves). Reeves is tallying marks of 50.9% from the field, 44.2% from 3-point range and 87.6% from the free- throw line — all career bests. He is the only Power 5 player averaging at least 1.5 made 3-pointers and tallying at least .490% from the field, .435 from 3-point range and .865 from the charity stripe. He tallied 30 points in a win at Louis- ville and followed that performance with 27 against Illinois State. He was just the fourth UK player to ever score 30 or more in the series vs. Louisville. With the 30-point effort at Louisville, Reeves joined Oscar Tshieb- we (4), Monk (4) and Murray (3) as the only players in the UK-Calipari era to have multi- ple games with 30 or more points. Reeves has topped double-figure scor- ing in all but one game this season and eclipsed the 20-point plateau in 18 games. He is just the second UK player under Cali- pari to have 20-plus career 20-or-more scoring efforts in his career, joining 2022 National Player of the Year, Tshiebwe, in that category. Eleven of his 27 career 20- plus point scoring efforts have come on the road. The Chicago native has scored 20 or more in six straight games, including 20 in a win against Vanderbilt on Wednesday. That’s the longest streak of 20-point efforts for a UK player since Murray did so in 12 games in 2016. Against Georgia, he eclipsed 2,000 career points combining his time at Illinois State and at Kentucky. As a Wildcat, he became the 62nd player in program history to amass 1,000 career points with 25 at LSU. He is one of three active players and 10 all-time to tally 1,000 career points at two different programs. In two seasons with UK, Reeves has scored 1,088 points. The most in a two-year span as a Wildcat is 1,213 by Bill Spivey. Tshiebwe (1,117) is in second. In his career with UK, he has 54 dou- ble-digit scoring games, 41 games with mul- tiple made 3s, 28 20-point games and eight games with five or more made 3s.Thank You to Our CORNERSTONE PARTNERSNEKENTUCKY BASKETBALL 18 @KentuckyMBB Around the SEC Around the Country 2023-24 SEC Standings and Statistics Team SEC Overall Home Road Tennessee 14-3 24-6 14-1 8-3 South Carolina 12-5 24-6 14-3 7-3 Auburn 12-5 23-7 14-1 5-5 Kentucky 12-5 22-8 14-4 6-3 Alabama 12-5 20-10 13-2 5-5 Florida 11-6 21-9 14-1 3-6 Mississippi State 8-9 19-11 11-3 2-8 Texas A&M 8-9 17-13 10-5 5-6 LSU 8-9 16-14 11-5 3-8 Ole Miss 7-10 20-10 15-3 4-7 Georgia 6-11 16-14 12-6 4-5 Arkansas 6-11 15-15 11-6 2-6 Vanderbilt 3-14 8-22 7-10 1-9 Missouri 0-17 8-22 6-11 2-9 Scoring Player-Team ...................................................................PPG Mark Sears, ALA ............................................................20.7 Dalton Knecht, UT ........................................................20.6 Antonio Reeves, UK ......................................................20.0 Wade Taylor IV, TAMU ...................................................18.2 Sean East II, MIZZOU ....................................................17.5 Rebounding Player-Team ...................................................................RPG Andersson Garcia, TAMU ................................................9.5 Johni Broome, AUB .........................................................8.6 Tyrese Samuel, UF ...........................................................7.8 Jonas Aidoo, UT ..............................................................7.6 Micah Handlogten, UF ....................................................7.5 Assists Player-Team ...................................................................APG Zakai Zeigler, UT .............................................................5.8 Zyon Pullin, UF ...............................................................5.0 Aaron Estrada, ALA ..........................................................4.5 Ta'Lon Cooper, SC ...........................................................4.4 Reed Sheppard, UK .........................................................4.3 Steals Player-Team ...................................................................SPG Reed Sheppard, UK .........................................................2.6 Cameron Matthews, MISS ST ...........................................2.1 Wade Taylor IV, TAMU .....................................................2.1 Zakai Zeigler, UT .............................................................1.9 Jordan Wright, LSU ..........................................................1.8 Blocks Player-Team ...................................................................BPG Jamarion Sharp, MISS ......................................................2.5 Johni Broome, AUB .........................................................2.3 Jonas Aidoo, UT ..............................................................1.9 Grant Nelson, ALA ..........................................................1.5 Dylan Cardwell, AUB ......................................................1.4 2023-24 Associated Press Rankings As of March 4, 2024 (week 18) Team Record Points 1 Houston (52) 26-3 1539 2 UConn (6) 26-3 1462 3 Purdue (4) 26-3 1459 4 Tennessee 23-6 1364 5 Arizona 23-6 1252 6 Iowa State 23-6 1212 7 North Carolina 23-6 1201 8 Marquette 22-7 1056 9 Duke 23-6 1051 10 Creighton 22-8 983 11 Baylor 21-8 901 12 Illinois 22-7 834 13 Auburn 22-7 746 14 Kansas 21-8 723 15 Kentucky 21-8 711 16 Alabama 20-9 592 17 South Carolina 24-5 579 18 Washington State 23-7 484 19 Gonzaga 24-6 396 20 BYU 21-8 343 21 San Diego State 22-7 338 22 Utah State 24-5 285 23 Saint Mary's 24-7 268 24 South Florida 22-5 154 25 Dayton 22-6 50We’re your Shield.
