Game time is 2 p.m. ET (1 p.m. CT in Fayetteville’s Bud Walton Arena) and the tilt will be televised by CBS. Arkansas enters the game having won 12 of the last 13, with only a one-point road loss at Alabama marring the streak. The Razor- backs (22-6 overall, 11-4 Southeastern Con- ference) are just a game back of Kentucky (23-5, 12-3 SEC) in the league standings. Arkansas is averaging 77.5 points per game, led by senior guard JD Notae, who is second in the SEC in scoring at 18.7 points per game. Additional top scorers include guard Stanley Umude (11.1 ppg), forward Jaylin Williams (10.4 ppg, team-high 9.6 re- bounds per game) and guard Au’Diese Toney (10.3 ppg). The Razorbacks have an uncanny knack for drawing fouls and getting to the free-throw line, leading the nation in free throws attempted and made. And, once they get there, Arkansas has taken advantage by making 74.6 percent of their free tosses. Defensively, Arkansas is No. 13 in the na- tion in the KenPom.com adjusted defensive efficiency rating and UA is forcing 15.4 turn- overs per game. Kentucky leads the all-time series 33-12. UK leads 9-7 in games played at Arkansas and has won the last three meetings in Fay- etteville. Last season, UA won the only meeting, 81-80, in Rupp Arena. The Bryce is Right: Second-Half Rally Lifts Kentucky Past LSU Having seen his fellow Kentucky reserves shine when given the opportunity prepared Bryce Hopkins for his chance to make a dif- ference. Hopkins came off the bench to score a career-high 13 points, including 11 during the second stanza to fuel Kentucky’s 15-2 second-half surge, and Oscar Tshiebwe and Keion Brooks Jr. made late free throws to help the No. 6 Wildcats survive LSU 71-66 on Wednesday night. The short-handed Wildcats trailed 36-28 just after halftime and needed offense be- sides Tshiebwe. Hopkins, a 6-foot-6 fresh- man forward, provided an immediate spark by muscling for baskets and drawing chanc- es at the foul line during the spurt. His tra- ditional three-point play put Kentucky ahead up 39-36 with 15:35 left and came seconds after Tshiebwe grabbed Hopkins’ missed free throw and created two chances ending with Hopkins’ tip-in. Hopkins was 5 of 6 from the field and had four rebounds in 16 minutes, just enough to give Ken- tucky a much-needed boost. ‘’I saw in the first half that we were kind of like playing a little slow,’’ said Hopkins, who hadn’t played more than four minutes since Jan. 15 and was averag- ing just a basket a game. “In the second half Coach (John Calipa- ri) was saying we needed a little energy, so that’s what I tried to do when I came into the game. Just started to bring energy, and just contribute.’’ Calipari added, ‘’All I have been talking about is preparing for an opportunity. ... You can listen to everybody tell you it is every- body else or the coach, or you can say when I get my chance, I am going to do what the team needs me to do.’’ Hopkins’ jumper made it 43-38 and Ken- tucky (23-5, 12-3 Southeastern Conference) built a 65-50 lead late before LSU rallied to 68-64 and forced a turnover with 33.2 sec- onds left. However, Brooks rebounded a missed layup and made two free throws with 13 seconds left, and Tshiebwe answered Darius Days’ layup by making a free throw with 3.1 seconds left to seal Kentucky’s sec- ond consecutive victory. Xavier Pinson had a season-high 26 points for the Tigers (19-9, 7-8) in their sec- ond straight loss after three straight wins. Eric Gaines added 11 points and Days had 10 with eight rebounds. Tshiebwe finished with 17 points and 16 rebounds for Kentucky, which played its second consecutive contest without injured starting guards TyTy Washington Jr. and Sah- vir Wheeler. Davion Mintz started and added 13 points, along with Kellan Grady’s 13. More Game Notes • Trailing by 11 points during the first half (27-16), it was the second game in a row and third time this season that Kentucky rallied from a double-digit deficit to win • Kentucky limited LSU to 36.8% from the field and the Wildcats are 12-0 this sea- son when keeping the opponent under 40% • Kentucky won the rebounding 36-24, leading to a 17-10 edge in second-chance points • Tshiebwe had his 10th straight dou- ble-double and 22nd of the season “Comeback Cats” ... Coming Back? One of the most famous teams in Ken- tucky’s storied history, the 1998 national champion, earned the nickname “Comeback Cats” after a number of come-from-behind efforts during the season, topped by dou- ble-digit rallies to win the regional final vs. Duke and the Final Four games against Stan- ford and Utah. Based on performances of the last week, the current squad might revive the nickname. Last Saturday in Rupp Arena, Kentucky trailed Alabama by 13 points in the first half (41-28) before taking the lead for good in the second half and going on to win 90-81. A similar script was written on Wednes- day. LSU led by 11 points (27-16) and again, the Wildcats had to rally in the second half before escaping with a 71-66 home victory. And, those aren’t the first times this season that UK battled from double-digit deficits. On Jan. 19, playing in Bryan-Col- lege Station before the largest crowd in Texas A&M history, Kentucky fell behind 29-16. However, the Wildcats methodical- ly worked their way back into contention, caught the Aggies in the stretch, then nipped them at the wire, 64-58. Asked about the comebacks following the LSU game, Coach John Calipari said, “They’re playing to win versus not to lose. My whole mindset is always on how are we go- ing to win this. It’s never like, we could lose this. My mind doesn’t flip to that. I’m trying to tell them, you play to win. If you don’t win, you don’t win, but you play to win. Playing not to lose, gets you to lose. Play to win.” The double-digit comeback victories were the first time UK had back-to-back such efforts since trailing by 10 to Texas A&M on Jan. 8, 2019 and trailing by 12 against Van- derbilt on Jan. 12, 2019.167 W Main Street, Lexington | @LockboxLex | LockboxLex.com LEXINGTONLocated at GLOW BIG BLUE Just blocks from Rupp Arena, we’re the perfect destination for your pre-game dinner or post-game drinks.
