In 1932 halfback Jimmy Hitchcock made Auburn history by becoming the first player to earn All-America honors. Eighty-nine years later, Roger McCreary continued the legacy of Auburn greats by becoming a first team All-American on three different lists in 2021. The first cornerback to earn All-America honors since Chris Davis in 2013, McCreary was placed on the Associated Press, The Athletic and ESPN first teams. n Seventy-two Tiger players have combined for 81 first team All-America honors. End Jimmy Phillips is Auburn’s most celebrated All-American, making 11 teams in 1957. Pat Sullivan, Terry Beasley, Bo Jackson and Tracy Rocker were each named to 10 teams in a single season. n Auburn has had 22 seasons with multiple All-Americans and nine seasons with three or more. Everything feels new but yet full of so much history. Now you’ll see the students walking around campus. This is the magic of the Auburn Family! While they may all look different, they share so much in common, starting with the smiles and the passion they have for the university. You can feel the Auburn spirit in their expressions and will probably be surprised at how many people will greet you. Name: Molly Walding Hometown: Fairhope, Alabama Major/School: Public Relations (College of Liberal Arts) If you could play any position in football, what would you play and why? If I could play any position in football, I would choose left tackle. I think the left tackle is one of the most important jobs on the field, but isn’t the center of attention. Their job is to protect the blind side and that is what I hope to do with the Auburn student body through my platform. I was honored to be nominated for this position because it gave me the opportunity to raise awareness for something I am passionate about, the Office of Accessibility. Similar to the importance of the left tackle, the Office of Accessibility is an extremely important program at Auburn, but often not discussed. What is your major and what made you decide to pursue it? My journey to finding a major was different than most people, but it really shaped my Auburn experience. I changed my major five times before landing in public relations. I am thankful I could see several of the majors that Auburn offers. As a student recruiter, I can remind incoming students that it is okay to be unsure when you start college. Auburn gives you the space to decide who you want to be and what you want to do. I chose public relations because I love building relationships with people and communicating with the public. I am extremely outgoing and love to represent groups or organizations, which is another reason I find this position a huge honor. What is your favorite Auburn tradition and why? My favorite Auburn tradition is not stepping on the Auburn Seal until you graduate. As a student recruiter for the university, I tell this tradition to prospective students and their families twice a week. If you are unfamiliar: if you step on the seal before you graduate, you will not graduate in four years, not meet the love of your life while you are at Auburn and you will have seven generations of Alabama fans in your family. As someone who avoids the seal at all costs, this past spring I stepped on the seal and reversed the curse by jumping in the fountain at Dr. Roberts’ house on Leap Day. Over 80 student recruiters and I went to the seal at 11:50 PM and then straight to the fountain at midnight. This is a memory I will never forget! If you could walk in someone else’s shoes for a day, who would it be and why? If I could walk in someone else’s shoes for a day, the easy answer would be Aubie. Aubie’s actions speak louder than his words! He serves the university selflessly as the living spirit of Auburn. I would love the opportunity to see the community through his eyes. He brings joy, laughter and friendliness to everyone. He is always in a good mood and puts a smile on everyone’s face. It is impossible to have a bad day when Aubie is around. What does it mean to be on the Homecoming Court? To be on the Homecoming Court is one of my greatest honors during my time here at Auburn. Growing up in a huge Auburn family, I always admired the girls on the field for the Homecoming game, but I never knew the impact they had on the campus. Being on the Homecoming Court is an honor to represent the organization who nominated you, the student body and community, but it is also a large responsibility. Being a top- five candidate is much more than being in the parade and walking on the field. Being on the top-five means promoting a platform you are passionate about and being supported my numerous people of all ages and organizations all over campus. It allows you the space to represent Auburn and what it stands for both on campus and throughout the community. What has been your favorite class at Auburn and why? My favorite class at Auburn so far has been my special topics in public relations class. During my semester, the topic of focus was tourism. We learned about Auburn as a city rather than just as an university. I was able to see many places and things to do outside of student- centered events. My appreciation for Auburn and the community surrounding it grew more than I thought was possible. I could see the impact the university has on the city and vice versa. It was already easy for me to brag on Auburn, but this class gave me many more reasons to! Describe Auburn to someone who has never been here. Auburn really is the Loveliest Village on the Plains! Auburn checks all the boxes. It has academics, athletics, involvement, community and more. The university itself is unlike any place I have ever been. The students and staff are relational and truly care about you as a person. Everyone is pushing you to be the best version of yourself. It is a big SEC school, but it maintains the feel of a small town. You are met with a smile, a wave and a “War Eagle” anywhere you go. The Auburn Family is more than a saying. It means you are a part of a lifelong family. No matter where you end up, the phrase “War Eagle” will always give you a piece of home.
