< Previous100 OLYMPIC SPORTS UPDATE: EQUESTRIAN AUBURNTIGERS.COM In her second season as head coach, Jessica Braswell is excited to see what’s in store for the 2024-25 edition of Auburn equestrian. “We have been talking a lot about legacy and I’m really looking forward to seeing what legacy this season’s team is going to leave behind,” Braswell said. “I think this is a really determined and gritty group, and we are going to see them with a lot of fight in the competition arena.” And it’s that grit and determination that will set the Tigers up for another run in the postseason. The squad is coming off its sixth- straight Southeastern Conference title and return nine starters that combined for 14 of the 20 starting spots between Jumping Seat and Western. All-Americans Ellie Ferrigno, Mary- Grace Segars and Sophee Steckbeck are poised to have a great final season on the Plains in Jumping Seat alongside experience sophomore Avery Glynn. The four have combined for147 starts in Fences and 143 in Flat. “These guys know what it takes to win and are determined to have a really good season,” Braswell said. Joining this experienced group of riders is a solid group of freshmen that include Kate Hagerty, Ariana Marnell, Eve Westfall and Kate Parker. “These freshmen are all coming in off of some great wins and results this summer,” Braswell said. “I’m looking forward to the depth we are going to have.” The Tigers also have a wealth of experience returning on the Western side. Fifth year Olivia Bradley (previously Marino) along with juniors Caroline Buchanan, Caroline Fredenburg (All-American) and Alexia Tordoff (All- American) will be key to the continued growth of the group. “We’re also looking forward to Sydney Swallom and Brooke Jolstad building off of their freshman campaigns in Horsemanship,” Braswell added. And just like Jumping Seat, a handful of freshmen are expected to step up in competition, including Michelle Fumagali and Catie Reachard. “Reining will be an event where we look for significant contributions from some newcomers,” Braswell said. Another new, but not completely new, face to the team is associate head coach Mary Meneely. After taking two years off from coaching, Meneely returns to the helm of the Western program. “Coach Meneely has so much experience coaching in college along with all of her experience in the horse industry,” Braswell said. “She is going to challenge these athletes every day and they will not find anyone that has more belief in them than she does. I’m looking forward to the depth she will build with our current roster, and she is an excellent recruiter as we look towards the future.” With the returned experience and talented addition of newcomers, the Tigers are looking forward to another successful season in 2024-25. “This team is going to have the talent and leadership to have a lot of success this season,” Braswell said. “I think the differentiator is going to be how tough can we be, how resilient can we be. If we stay focused on competing and winning for each other and Auburn and focused on what is within our control, we have a chance to win championships.” The Tigers kick off the season on September 27 at the Auburn University Equestrian Center, hosting the 2024 NCEA runner-up TCU at 3 p.m. CT.
