The Illinois native fell in love with the Plains, embracing the campus and the famed Auburn Family. He quickly called Auburn and Noble Hall home. “People just embrace each other at Auburn. It’s easy to make friends and connect with people,” he said. “I certainly felt that way even though I wasn’t from the South. Auburn is just a very welcoming community.” After graduating with a bachelor’s and then a master’s degree in accountancy in 1995 and 1996, Jeff left Auburn to start his family and career. But Auburn was never far from his mind. He served on the School of Accountancy Advisory Council for many years and currently serves as an emeritus member. As a husband, father of three and the managing partner of Bennett Thrasher accounting firm in Atlanta, time can be a limited commodity. But being part of the Auburn Family is important to Jeff. From visiting campus for sporting events to recruiting graduates to his firm, he still believes in Auburn and loves it—and wants other students to have access to the same college experience he did. “Giving someone access to education is really the greatest asset you can give them,” he said. The belief in the power of an Auburn education to transform lives motivated his wife and him to establish a scholarship for students in the School of Accountancy—the Jeff and Shannon Call Family/ Bashinsky Ever Auburn scholarship in the Harbert College of Business. “This was an opportunity for the Bashinskys’ giving to match our giving to have an even greater impact,” he said. “The funds we put in were matched dollar for dollar to help more students, and that was a very powerful draw for me.” Whether it was his Midwestern upbringing that taught him the importance of gratitude and giving back, his experiences at Auburn that created lifelong friendships and launched him into his career, or a combination of both, Jeff is driven to help others find their own paths of success—ultimately, continuing the cycle of giving. “Some of the things I’ve learned at Auburn are a big part of what’s made me successful today,” he said. “I hope that I am able to help someone else have a meaningful college career and maybe one day they can help someone, creating this waterfall effect of opportunity.” A s Auburn Athletics’ oldest corporate partner, GOLDEN FLAKE, or the “Official Snack of the Auburn Tigers,” has long been a tradition in Jordan-Hare Stadium. And now, the late Sloan and Joann Bashinsky of Birmingham- based Golden Flake Foods have left a legacy that is making a way for talented, hardworking students to find their own journey to the Plains . The couple’s generous gift through the Bashinsky Foundation reflects their lifelong dedication to creating access to education for students and provides 113 matching gift opportunities for Ever Auburn scholarships. Ever Auburn is a scholarship and financial aid initiative that is creating opportunities for students who have the intellect, the drive and the desire—but not the means—to attend Auburn. These scholarships are bringing students to our campus, helping them weather changing financial circumstances and allowing them to embrace the full Auburn Experience. For Lindsay Parker, a junior mathematics education major, receiving an Ever Auburn scholarship is making her career aspirations possible. “This scholarship is allowing me to pursue my dream of becoming a secondary math teacher and helping me achieve my goal of getting through college debt free. I am so honored to attend Auburn University and to be given this scholarship to further my academic career means so much to me,” Lindsay said. “Giving someone access to education is really the greatest asset you can give them.” Tyler, Jeff, Shannon, Jackson and Evie Call Lindsay Parker To learn more about Ever Auburn scholarships, visit ever.auburn.edu AUBURNTIGERS.COM SHARING THE AUBURN EXPERIENCE PHILANTHROPY 89Next >
