< Previous100 OLYMPIC SPORTS UPDATE: WOMEN’S GOLF AUBURNTIGERS.COM Deep runs at a national championship are nothing new for the Auburn women’s golf program, and the team did not disappoint during the 2023-24 season. The Tigers recorded the best team scoring average in program history (287.35) and tied the second-lowest 18-hole score in program history at the Mason Rudolph Championship (274). The Tigers finished the stroke play portion of the SEC Championship and reached the quarterfinal round of match play. Ultimately, the team finished within the top 5 in eight tournaments through the SEC Championship. The Tigers had the opportunity to host an NCAA Regional on their home turf at the Auburn University Club and took advantage of it. Freshman phenom Anna Davis recorded back-to-back rounds of 3-under (69) to claim low medalist honors at the tournament while senior Megan Schofill claimed a tie for second place. The two Tigers propelled the team to a regional victory to punch the program’s 21st ticket the NCAA Championship as well as the fifth under head coach Melissa Luellen. Davis later came through in a pressure moment for the team at the NCAA Championship in Carlsbad, California. When Auburn began making the turn at the Champions Course at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa, it was just one shot above the projected cut line on the fourth and final day of stroke play. Only eight teams advance to the match play portion of the event, and the Tigers were in eighth place late in the final round of stroke play. Anna Foster and Anna Davis led the second nine charge, as they each recorded three birdies to help solidify the Tigers’ match play spot. With the team holding onto the eighth spot by one stroke over Wake Forest, Davis stuck her approach shot close on No. 9, her final hole of the day, and made a birdie to secure Auburn’s position on the leaderboard. Auburn reached match play at the NCAA Championship for the fourth time since 2019 and finished the season as national quarterfinalists. One week later at the NCAA Men’s Golf Championship, Auburn became the only school in the nation to have its men’s and women’s programs both qualify for the match play portion of the NCAA Championship. After the season, freshman Davis was awarded second-team WGCA All-American and WGCA All-Freshman team honors while Davis, Schofill and Casey Weidenfeld were each tabbed second team All-SEC. On top of winning low medalist at NCAA Auburn Regional, Davis was runner-up at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic and finished top 5 at the SEC Championship. Schofill had four top 10 individual finishes, and Weidenfeld tied the fourth-lowest 54-hole score in program history with a 206 (-10) at both the Mason Rudolph Championship and Tar Heel Invitational. Weidenfeld also tied the third-lowest round in program history with a 65 (-7) during the final round of the Tar Heel Invitational.
