< PreviousAUBURNTIGERS.COM Auburn soccer earned its first two wins of the James Armstrong Era in dominant fashion over the weekend, picking up a 3-0 win over Southern Miss and a 6-0 win over Kennesaw State. The Tigers’ attack generated 57 shots in the contests while the back line did not allow a single shot against, marking just the second time in program history Auburn posted back-to-back matches with zero shots conceded. Junior All-SEC forward Olivia Woodson earned her fifth career brace with two goals against the Golden Eagles. Sophomore Layla Sirdah buried a penalty kick to cement the win with her first goal as a Tiger. “It felt nice to put a third one in the back of the net,” Sirdah said. “It’s my first one here at Auburn, so it feels amazing. This is just the beginning. We have a lot to work on, but I am excited for what’s to come with this team.” Against USM, Auburn’s defenders and freshman goalkeeper Ayana Yapo kept any attacking hopes at bay to secure the team’s second clean sheet in as many matches. On Senior Day against Kennesaw State, Auburn found all six goals from senior players. Taylor Chism and Shelby Sallee bagged their firsts of the year, but the headline was a haul from Erin Flurey as she became the first Auburn woman in 32 years to score four times in one match. “It’s kind of surreal,” Flurey said. “It’s my last year, and that was my first multi-goal game ever. To be able to do it surrounded by this great group of people and in James’ (Armstrong) first year is a surreal moment. I’m really grateful.” All four of Flurey’s goals came in a 34-minute span with the first two coming just 27 seconds apart. Versus the Owls, Auburn’s defense once again proved too much to handle as the Tigers hung a third consecutive clean sheet. Yapo got the start in goal and was relieved at halftime by junior Avery Gillahan. “Proud of the effort on both sides of the ball,” Armstrong said. “I thought we created some really good chances this weekend. We still need to be a bit better with our efficiency, but the defense shut it down in the last two games against two good teams. We’re trending in the right direction.” Next, Armstrong’s crew heads west for its first two road matches of the season, facing No. 11 BYU on Friday and Utah Valley on Monday.
