Auburn is 103-27-2 (.788) all-time in season openers, trailing only Alabama (105) and tied with Arkansas (103) for the most season-opening wins among current SEC schools. n The Tigers have won 17 of their past 19 season openers dating back to the 2006 season, including eight straight season-opening wins dating back to 2017. The eight straight season-opening wins are the third most in program history. n Hugh Freeze is 9-3 in season openers in 12 seasons as an FBS head coach, including 2-0 in his first two seasons at Auburn, and 10-4 in his 14 seasons overall as a college head coach. n Auburn has opened the season in Texas on three previous occasions, going a perfect 3-0 in those trips to the Lone Star State. n Auburn trails Baylor 2-1-1 all-time, and the road team is 2-0- 1 in on-campus matchups. The lone meeting between the two programs in Waco on Sept. 20, 1975 resulted in a 10-10 tie. n Auburn is 24-8-1 all-time against the current members of the Big 12, and Friday’s contest marks Auburn’s first regular season game against a member of the Big 12 since a 20-14 win at No. 20 Kansas State in 2014. n Friday’s season opener at Baylor is Auburn’s first regular season game on Friday since the 2010 Iron Bowl, a game in which Auburn erased a 24-0 deficit to win 28-27 en route to the national championship. n Jackson Arnold will be Auburn’s 22nd starting quarterback since 2000. On Aug. 31, 2019, a touchdown pass from freshman Bo Nix to Seth Williams with nine seconds left led the Tigers past Oregon 27-21 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. This is the first meeting since 1976. n Baylor returns a bevy of talent from a 2024 roster that featured the nation’s 20th-best offense, also ranking No. 19 in scoring offense and No. 19 in team passing efficiency. n Quarterback Sawyer Robertson is the nation’s leading returner in QBR (83.7), after ranking fifth nationally last year. Robertson slung 28 touchdowns and threw for 3,071 yards in his first season as a near full-time starter, taking over in Week 3. n Running back Bryson Washington shattered the program freshman record for rushing yards, totaling 1,028 yards and 12 touchdowns. n Punter Palmer Williams led the nation in punting among those who punted at least 2.5 times per game. He booted it 43 times for a 49.3 yard average, the best in school history. n Linebacker Keaton Thomas made 114 tackles last year, and enters the season as a preseason All-American, and is on the watch list for the Butkus, Nagurski and Bednarik Awards. n Coach Dave Aranda is in his sixth season leading the Bears and his second season as the defensive play caller and primary inside linebackers coach. n Offensive Coordinator Jake Spavital is back for year two after resurrecting the offensive fireworks in Waco in 2024. Matthew Powledge is in his third year as the defensive coordinator. n Baylor AD Mack Rhoades IV will serve as the Chairman of the CFP Selection Committee in 2025, his second year on the committee. n Baylor has been credited as playing the nation’s toughest non-conference schedule according to On3, facing Auburn and No. 16 SMU in consecutive weeks to open the year. n The Bears are wearing Chrome helmets for the first time since the 2017 season and will pair it with anthracite jerseys for a “Blackout on the Brazos” promotion. n Baylor will wear a helmet patch throughout the season to honor the tragic death of freshman defensive lineman Alex Foster, who passed away in May during a visit to his hometown in Mississippi.
