The brothers were always one year away from being able to play with each other but were never able to capitalize on the opportunity. However, thanks to the extra year of eligibility presented to student- athletes due to COVID-19, the Carlsons are getting to do the unimaginable. Both brothers agree that playing baseball at Auburn was an opportunity of a lifetime. “Auburn was the first school to really recruit me, and they just made it feel like home,” Parker said. “Knowing that I had this opportunity once I graduated, it was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up,” Brooks added. Brooks explained that being able to play with his brother was definitely a factor in choosing Auburn. Family has always been a priority for the Carlsons. The parents, Danny and Kristi, and sister, Ellie, are fully supportive of their decisions to attend Auburn. The removal of stress from conflicting baseball schedules is something that the Carlson family is looking forward to. In the past, the boys have been in important games at the same time in two different locations. This past season, Parker was in postseason play at Faith Academy during the same time Brooks was deep into conference play for Samford. At one point, both sons were at bat at the same time. “Brooks was hitting on ESPN+ and we were watching Parker in the batter’s box live,” Danny said. Now, the Carlson parents will be able to travel to games together instead of having to divide their time between their two sons.
