< Previous28 n COACHING STAFF 2021-22 VILLANOVA BASKETBALL 2 0 2 1 - 2 2 SUPPORT STAFF DIRECTOR OF ACADEMIC SUPPORT FOR ATHLETICS JENN BROPHY Jenn Brophy is the Director of Academic Support at Villanova . Brophy served as the Assistant Director for Academic Support for three years and then served as Associate Director under the late Dan Regan . She presently oversees the daily operations of the Office of Academic Support for Athletics . As the primary liason between the aca- demic and athletic communities, Brophy is in constant communication with deans, faculty and coaches . She graduated from Lebanon Valley College in 2004 where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology . She pursued a graduate degree at Temple University and is currently working towards another master’s degree in counseling from Villanova . After graduating from Temple, Brophy worked as the academic coordinator for the Office of Academic Affairs for Varsity Athletics at Loyola College in Maryland . An active member of the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics (N4A), she is a mem- ber of the Learning Concerns Committee . Brophy and her husband Kyle reside in Ardmore, Pa . ASST. ATHLETICS DIRECTOR/COMMUNICATIONS MIKE SHERIDAN Mike Sheridan serves as the basket- ball program’s primary conduit to the print and broadcast media . Sheridan joined the athletic depart- ment in October 1998 and became the contact for men’s basketball . He has held that role ever since and in the summer of 2018 was promot- ed to the role of Assistant Athletics Director/Communications . As part of his responsibilities, Sheridan serves as a coor- dinating producer of “Inside Villanova Basketball with Jay Wright” and co-host of the “Talking Villanova Basketball with Jay Wright” podcast . In 2019 Sheridan received the Katha Quinn Award from the United States Basketball Writers Association for con- tributions to college basketball . Sheridan is the co-author with Jay Wright and Mark Dagostino of the New York Times bestseller, “Attitude: How to Develop a Winning Mindset On and Off the Court .” Prior to his arrival at Villanova, Sheridan spent 14 years as the managing editor of Basketball Times and a decade as editor of Eastern Basketball magazine . The 1984 graduate of Fordham University earned two “Best Writing” awards from the United States Basketball Writers Association . Sheridan and his wife Kristin live in Havertown, Pa . ATHLETIC ACADEMIC ADVISOR MARISSA PAFFAS Marissa Paffas joined the Villanova Basketball family in the fall of 2012 . She serves as an Athletic Advisor, working closely with the men’s basket- ball student-athletes . Paffas and Jenn Brophy were recip- ients of the 2018 Nova Nation Award for exceptional service to the men’s basketball program . Paffas graduated from Villanova in 2007 with a B .A . in history with a concentration in Russian Area Studies and a minor in Russian language . She went on to earn a Master’s degree from Villanova in 2009 . From 2008-12, Paffas served as a tutor to Villanova stu- dent-athletes . VIDEO COORDINATOR MATT FRASCHILLA After serving two seasons as a graduate manager, Matt Fraschilla was elevated to the role of video coordina- tor at the conclusion of the 2018-19 academic year . In this capactiy Fraschiila oversees video responsibilites for the coach- ing staff . He also serves as a producer for the Talking Villanova Basketball Podcast with Jay Wright presented by Hartford Funds . Fraschilla played four seasons of basketball at Harvard University from 2013-17 . During his playing career with the Crimson, Fraschilla appeared in 24 games . A native of Dallas, Tex ., Fraschilla attended Highland Park High School . His father, Fran Fraschilla is the former head basketball coach at Manhattan, St . John’s and New Mexico who is now an ESPN College Basketball analyst . His mother is Meg Fraschilla and he has one sibling, James (26) .2021-22 VILLANOVA BASKETBALL COACHING STAFF n 29 2 0 2 1 - 2 2 SUPPORT STAFF ASSISTANT AD / EQUIPMENT OPERATIONS BLAKE BURKEY Blake Burkey enters his second year at Villanova in 2019-20 and will serve as the Assistant Athletics Director for Equipment Operations . In this role, Burkey will oversee the equipment and apparel needs for all 24 Wildcat sports . He arrives at Villanova from Saint Joseph’s University where he was the Director of Athletic Equipment Operations and the Head Equipment Manager from 2015- 18 . Prior to Saint Joseph’s he was the Assistant Director of Facilities & Operations and the Head Equipment Manager at Rider from 2010-15 . His first full-time position came at the University of Pennsylvania where he was an assistant for Athletic Facilities and Operations from 2008-10 . Burkey is a 2006 graduate of Mount Saint Mary’s University where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics in 2006 . He also owns a Masters Degree in Sports Administration from Canisius College in 2008 . STUDENT-ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT MAALIK WAYNS Former standout guard Maalik Wayns returned to the program in the fall of 2021 after completing a career that included stints in the National Basketball Association and overseas . Wayns, a native of Philadelphia, rose to prominence in the first decade of the 2000s, eventually becoming a McDonald’s All-American in his senior season at Roman Catholic High School in 2008-09 . He came to Villanova in the fall of 2009 and immediately earned a spot in the rotation, helping the Wildcats to a 20-1 start to the season . As a Junior in 2011-12, Wayns led Villanova in scoring at 17 .6 points per game . In three seasons in the Blue and White, he scored 1,191 points and ranks 21st on the school’s all-time assists list (333) . Wayns played for the Los Angeles Clippers and Philadelphia 76ers before embarking upon a playing career in Europe . In his current capacity, Wayns fills a staff role focused on off-court development of the Student-Athlete . Previous occupants of this position have included Brooks Sales, Curtis Sumpter, Mike Nardi, Kris Jenkins and Darryl Reynolds . GRADUATE MANAGER COLIN ARMSTRONG After serving four seasons as a student office assistant in the Basketball Office, Collin Armstrong graduated from Villanova in May 2020 with a degree in Economics . The Fairfax, Va ., enters his second season as graduate manager in 2021- 22 as he pursues a master’s in business administration in the Villanova School of Business . GRADUATE MANAGER TIM SAUNDERS Former Wildcats’ walk-on Tim Saunders, a 2020 graduate from the Villanova School of Business with a degree in marketing, joined his alma mater’s staff as a graduate manager prior to 2020-21 . A native of Torrey Pines, Cal ., Saunders played high school basketball at Torrey Pines High School under head coach John Olive . Olive is a former Wildcat (1973-77) who later served as an assistant to head coach Rollie Massimino (he and Jay Wright were on the same staff) .30 n COACHING STAFF 2021-22 VILLANOVA BASKETBALL 2 0 2 1 - 2 2 GRADUATE & STUDENT MANAGERS GRADUATE MANAGER RYAN SUSANIN After serving the program as a student manager before earning his Villanova degree in Communication and Public Relations in May 2021, Ryan Susanin moved into the role of Graduate Manager following graduation . Susanin is a native of Bryn Mawr, Pa . who is now pursuing a Masters degree, in Human Resource Development . As a student manager, Susanin joined the program in 2017-18 and served all four years of his undergraduate career . He served as head manager during the 2020-21 season . GRADUATE MANAGER RYAN M c TAMMEY One of the newest members of the 2021-22 basketball staff is first year graduate manager Ryan McTamney . McTamney was a 3-year starter at Ursinus College, graduating in 2020 . Over his four seasons he scored 1,380 points . In 2020-21 he played professionally in Ireland . A native of Roxborough, Pa ., McTamney is enrolled in the Villanova School of Business while he pursues a Master’s degree in Business Administration . CHRISTOPHER M. DINCUFF AWARD This award honors the memory of Chris Dincuff, Villanova class of 1992 . Chris was killed on Sept . 11, 2001, while working in the North Tower of the World Trade Center as a commodities broker for Carr Futures . One month earlier Chris had, at his own expense, traveled to follow the Wildcats on a summer tour of Italy . He was an avid fan of Villanova Basketball and his fiancee, Angie Gutermuth established a scholarship in his name to provide educational aid for a student manager in honor of Chris . Each year this award is presented to a Villanova basketball manager, one of the program’s unsung heroes, who exudes the same passion for the program that Chris Dincuff demonstrated . The 2019 recipient is Jim Murray TERESA AND JOSEPH MARTINI ‘61 ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP IN HONOR OF RANDY FOYE This scholarship was created in 2006 after the graduation of All-American guard Randy Foye . It helps provide educational and financial support to a student manager from New Jersey, where Foye grew up in Newark . The award honors Foye, who overcame the loss of both his parents before the age of six to emerge as BIG EAST Player of the Year as a college senior . Foye continues to serve the community of Newark today through the Randy Foye Foundation .
